Lots of things can go wrong or right with your iPod or iPhone. Found directly below lists how to diagnose your used, new or broken iPod or iPhone.
Diagnose Your iPod / iPhone
|
100% Working or Used iPod or iPhone
Charge up the iPod or iPhone fully and let it play for at least an hour to make sure the battery works. Then, plug the iPod into the computer and see if it syncs with iTunes. If all is good then it’s a 100% Working Used iPod; if not, please see the symptoms below to diagnose your iPod or iPhone.
What Kind of Damage Does Your iPod or iPhone Have?
- New – Never Used. No Scuffs, No Scratches… Perfect.
- Excellent – Near Perfect, Very Minor Scratches from Normal Very Light Use.
- OK – Average Condition with normal scratches and signs of wear and tear.
- Poor – Major Scratches, very minor dents.
- Trash (But Works) – Many Deep Scratches and Dents. Could go in the trash but it works just fine.
Broken Hard Drive, Sad Face, Folder Icon or Bricked
Most Common Issue - Plug the iPod into the Wall Charger, and if there is a sad face or folder icon then there is Hard Drive Failure. It’s that simple. For the iPhone, if you put any third party software or hacks on your iPhone, it may very well be bricked or no longer working because of software issues.
LCD Screen Damage
Cracked Screen, Lines Through Screen, Ink Blot. If, when you plug in to the computer using the USB cord the iPod communicates with the computer (uploads music) it is only LCD Damage. If the iPod does not communicate with the computer then it is more than just LCD Damage, so please select “Multiple Things Wrong.”
Cracked Touch Screen (iPhone and iPod Touch only)
Cracked Screen, Lines Through Screen, Ink Blot. If, when you plug in to the computer using the USB cord and the iPod or iPhone communicates with the computer (uploads music) it is only Touch Screen Damage. If the iPod or iPhone does not communicate with the computer then it is more than just Touch Screen Damage, so please select “Multiple Things Wrong.”
Dead
A simple issue to diagnose – There is no life to your iPod or iPhone: aka Dead. If you took a swim with your iPod or iPhone, that would be water damage. Also, if you think you are Steve Jobs and took your iPod or iPhone apart, that would be “Multiple Things Wrong” and is subject to further analysis based on the internal condition. See below.
Depleted / Dead / Old Battery
Charged up fully (the iPod or iPhone will say “Charged”) and goes off instantly, this indicates the battery is fully dead. If you completely charge the iPod and it works for less than an hour we will consider that an old battery and it will be valued as such.
Broken Buttons / Broken Click Wheel
The buttons or click wheel are non-responsive or do not work well when used. Check this by clicking on all buttons and scrolling.
Broken USB Port
When plugged into the computer, the iPod or iPhone only displays that it is charging or does not do anything at all. iTunes will not recognize your iPod or iPhone at all.
Broken Headphone Jack
No sound or one headphone does not emit sound. Make sure they are plugged in and the volume is on though.
Broken Hold Swith
Hold does not work when switched on or off.
Water Damage
You got your iPod or iPhone wet. Need I say more? Don’t mistake this one with “Dead.”
Opened and Severely Damaged Internally
You opened it, and you know what you did to it.
Extreme Damage
Fire, Monster Attack, Aliens ate it, ran over by a tank. Please remember that there are limitations and we have to be able to salvage some usable parts.
