100% Working Cell Phone, Smart Phone or PDA
Charge up the Cell Phone, PDA or Smart Phone overnight or until it is fully charged, turn it on and let it sit for at least 2-3 hours to make sure the battery works. If your battery lasts longer than 2-3 hours your battery shouldn’t fail our tests. Do a water damage check by opening up the back of the mobile phone or PDA (see below). Check your buttons by pressing / using all buttons, knobs and switches. If your phone or PDA has a touch screen, test it out by using the entire screen. Make sure this phone is not associated with an account (by calling your wireless provider) and is no longer able to make calls to friends and family. If all is good then it’s more than likely a 100% Working Cell Phone or PDA; if not, please see the symptoms below to diagnose your Tronics.
Water Damage
The first thing to look for on your phone is water damage. This is the number one reason phones can fail a test. A soak in the Jacuzzi or a jump in the ocean = water damage. To find out if your phone has water damage, take off the back where the battery is and if you see a red or pink sticker anywhere that indicates water damage. See the pictures below for examples.
Dead
You turn it on and your mobile phone does not go on. You charge it over night and it does not go on. You even swap batteries and it still does not go. My friend, you have a dead cell phone, see Water Damage to be sure water damage is not the reason.
Buttons and Touch Screen
Test all buttons and dials on your phone, using a note pad feature or something similar, if they all work you are fine.
Cracked LCD or Damaged Screen
If you see an ink blot, a crack or messed up pixels on your screen you have a busted screen. Sorry.
Bad ESN
Did this phone “fall off a truck”? Do you not know where it came from? If that is the case you may have a stolen or lost phone. If an ESN number (found on the back typically the DEC ESN Number) is bad (reported stolen or lost) we won’t be able to pay. So call the cell phone provider to confirm if the ESN is clear.
Sprint / Nextel Phones
Call Sprint / Nextel (1-877-891-1384) to confirm if your ESN is clear to make sure your phone is not attached to your account. Many times people will discontinue a number with Sprint / Nextel and the phone will still be attached to an account. Please check this because it is a really common issue.
Broken Ports or Plugs
Does your phone or PDA not charge unless you wedge the charging cable to one side of the port? Does a wireless headset only work on one ear or not at all? If this is the case you have a damaged port or plug.
Other Things
Does your phone die randomly? Does the speaker sound all garbled? Do you have really bad service? Is your old cell phone just actin’ a fool? If so, your phone is considered broken and should be submitted as having “other damage.”
