The iPhone 5: The New Rumor Roundup

clock May 23, 2012 14:53 by author Frank Gadget

Remember last year when smartphone fans around the world were anxiously living on rumors and tidbits about Apple’s new iPhone 5? It seemed as though every theory, story, and conjecture, no matter how far-fetched, was taken at face value and accepted as the truth.

But as we all know now, virtually all of the rumors failed to launch, so to speak, and Apple fans saw the reveal of the iPhone 4S in October 2011, instead.

Although it’s hard to believe, the Apple rumor mill has begun to crank out more stories about the next model of the iPhone. Some have already tagged it as the iPhone 5, while others believe Apple will throw another curve ball at the public and name it something else.

Most bets are on Apple naming its new product the “Next iPhone.”

One of the main weaknesses and complaints about the iPhone series are the glass backs – drop your iPhone and the fragile case shatters. But according to some sources within the industry, Apple may be incorporating a new material for its cases with something called Liquidmetal. More...

You use your favorite smartphone, tablet or eReader just about every day, but have you taken the time to think about where you use it the most? In a recent and interesting study, Nielsen has taken the time to figure out that it depends on what gadget you're using.

In its  study, Nielsen looked at the three most popular electronics on the market: tablets, eReaders, and smartphones. Researchers conducted a survey of nearly 12,000 device owners and asked them where they use their electronics the most, and how much time each was used in different locations. What resulted were some really unique findings. Check out the results after the jump.

Having trouble deciding between Android and Apple? So is the rest of the country

clock April 27, 2011 10:35 by author Andy Hellmuth

next-smartphone-os

It seems like only yesterday when you could ask the question, "If you were to purchase a new smartphone in the next year, what would it be?" and almost automatically receive the answer "an Apple iPhone." Oh the times, they are a-changin'.

According to a study released by Nielsen, that same question now has a new answer, "an Android phone." It's a trending pattern, and one that shouldn't be too surprising considering the sheer number of Android devices currently on the market. According to Nielsen's latest figures, Android phones now own 37% of the smartphone market share, whereas Apple holds claim to 27% overall.

Angry Birds Back to the Future Reference

clock March 21, 2011 09:24 by author Chris Eckerdt

The beloved game developed by Rovio, Angry Birds, has just come out with a new update which includes 15 new levels... One of which appears to be a Back to the Future 3 throwback.  Pictured above, it appears that the DeLorean, driven by Piggy McFly, has stumbled upon the wild west with very curious horses made of wood, and its mustachio'd inhabitants.

Also to note is that even though the small and large red birds have no actions that occur when you tap the screen, they do give out quite the battle call if you do.  Go ahead and try it!  Just fling any red bird, and tap the screen while it's in mid air.

Verizon Announces iPhone 4 Release - Our Take On What This Means For The Industry

After months, even years of anticipation Verizon announced Tuesday that they will offer the iPhone 4 for its customers on February 10th.  Not only does this mark the beginning of Verizon offering the iPhone, but it also marks the end of AT&T's exclusivity over the device since it first debuted in 2007.  This event absolutely opens the floodgates to all sorts of discussions about the future of these two carriers, Apple, and the iPhone itself, not to mention the rest of the cell phone industry.  Below Andy and Chris will conduct a point/counterpoint discussing the following subjects:  What the release of the iPhone to Verizon means for AT&T, What it means for Verizon, What it means for Apple, and What it means for CDMA vs GSM iPhone. Poor iPhone 4 Design Could Mean Cracked Glass for Many

clock October 12, 2010 10:28 by author Andy Hellmuth

iPhone 4 Design Flaw Could Lead to Epidemic of Cracked iPhones

Just when you thought that all the design flaws of the iPhone 4 were taking care of with the bumper program, which fixed the issue of dropped calls due to a questionable position of the antenna, the iPhone engineering team has uncovered what could be another major design flaw that could lead to another wave of very, very unhappy Apple customers (which we're sure Apple is just THRILLED about). The iPhone engineers have discovered that non-bumper cases that slide onto iPhone 4s can cause scratching when dust and other particles get in between the case and the body of the phone. These scratches can grow quickly over time, and eventually lead to full on cracking in the glass. There was already some grumblings about the glass back of the iPhone 4, and with this, it's certain there will be plenty more.

This isn't something that Apple is going to just let happen, however. They banned all third-party cases from all their Apple Stores up until this week, and the Apple team has created a test program just to research this problem. While Apple is taking precautions to not have non-bumper cases sold in their stores, the fact of the matter is that there are plenty of other avenues for these cases to be bought, which means that the potential for cracked glass iPhone 4's is still very high. With all of these problems, we think it's safe to say that whenever Apple releases the new iPhone (for Verizon perhaps??) there will be plenty of design changes.

If you become one of the unlucky few to have this issue happen with your iPhone 4, don't fret, BuyMyTronics is here for you. Come visit us and sell your broken iPhone 4 for top dollar!

Think Most Americans Are on the Smartphone Bandwagon? Think Again.

clock October 7, 2010 10:21 by author Andy Hellmuth

If you feel like you're on the outside looking in because you don't have an iPhone 4, a Blackberry Bold, or a Droid X, you'll be happy to hear that you actually belong to the majority of cell phone users in America.

According to a study from Forrester conducted this year, only 17 percent of cell phone users in America own a smartphone. This is true not only for the Baby Boomers, but also for the more "tech savvy" Gen X and Gen Y generations. While the Gen X'ers and the Gen Y'ers are the most likely to own a smart phone, less than 25% of each of these age groups own and use a smartphone. This means that the majority of these individuals are using "feature" phones; phones like the LG Ally or the Samsung Reclaim.
