From GoPro 3D to the Galaxy Note: The best of 2012 CES

clock January 17, 2012 16:12 by author JulieM

With more than 20,000 new products launched and 153,000 attendees this year, the International Consumer Electronics Show was, to put it mildly, overwhelming. BuyMyTronics traveled to Las Vegas for CES 2012 to check out the coolest it had to offer, and we did our best to make a dent in the nearly 2 million square feet of exhibit space. There were exhibits we liked for presentation and perks (free cocktails; thanks Casemate), and ones that enticed us with beautiful ladies in tight white dresses (hmm, we seem to to forget what that booth was for). And of course, there were plenty of awesome displays of technology. These are the six products that impressed us the most, mainly because we could actually see ourselves using them in the future. Oh, and the one weird robot scared us enough to make the list. More...

Common Customer Question Session: What Happens to the Electronics That You Take In?

clock September 23, 2011 11:44 by author JulieM

,

We take in over 6,000 gadgets in various conditions, from broken to sealed-in-the-box new. What happens to your electronic after we receive it is a matter of what kind of device it is, how old it is, and the condition that is is in. First thing’s first: Every time we get an item in, we scan it, and match it to an order in our database. We then process it by diagnosing its functionality and condition and then pay out our customers! But that’s not what you wanted to know, was it? You’re wondering what happens to your gadgets after all that...

Most gadgets have a secondary life beyond the single user. When you’re due for an upgrade, you usually take it, don’t you? But your old phone is usually still working when you opt for a new one, right? We believe in using existing resources by recirculating old electronics that can be fixed, refurbished and resold to new users. So we work with wholesale buyers, third-party auction sites and refurbishers that buy electronics, or even just parts such as batteries, for reuse.

For those items that can only be recycled for scrap, we partner with Certified Recyclers who ensure that no part of any item that passes through our facility will end up trashed in a landfill, locally or overseas. These recyclers have facilities that specialize in breaking down hazardous materials, extracting metals and reusing plastics. Our goal continues to be to take in unwanted electronics that would otherwise be collecting dust in a drawer, or worse, thrown away. Each step of the process we aim to evalute each electronic to make the best use of it in its second life.

Raise funds for your favorite charity with BuyMyTronics

clock May 3, 2011 10:19 by author JulieM

Did you know that besides accepting your personal electronics, BuyMyTronics can help you raise money for your favorite charity, church or school when you participate in our electronics collection drives? The goal of our program is twofold: to collect and recycle unwanted electronics, which prevents toxins from accumulating in landfills; and to generate additional montatery dontatoins for non-profit organizations that participate in the collections. By reducing e-Waste and supporting charities, we aim to contribute to the communities in a positive way. The funds raised by the collection boxes go directly to the non-profit organizations that are collecting them.

We provide your organization with donation boxes, marketing materials, shipping labels and instructions. The types of electronics that we collect are the same as our on customer website; small electronics such as:

  • Cell Phones
  • Smart Phones
  • All Apple products (iPhones, iPods, software, accessories, etc.)
  • MP3 Players
  • GPS Systems
  • Digital Cameras
  • Handheld Game Consoles
  • PDAs

Once the donation boxes are full, they can be shipped back to us at no cost (using our pre-paid shipping labels). We evaluate the contents and pay out site pricing on the items collected, and all the money raised go directly to the non-profit organization. At the end of the collection, we'll also add an additional 5% to the grand total as our contribution to your organization's collection efforts.

As promised to all of our customers, we ensure complete data security, and will wipe and clear information on all electronics before they leave our facility. The policy is also the same for our environmental responsibility, so we only work with Basel-Action Certified recyclers in first world countries to prevent any electronic device from ending up in a landfill. To participate in our electronics collection drive, please contact customercare@buymytronics.com, and we will provide you the materials to get started!
